Progress through the ages in an authentic world

Start empty-handed and learn to survive by gathering, hunting, crafting and fighting. Enter the stone age by making primitive stone tools and shaping clay into essential pottery. Push further by smelting copper for stronger tools, alloying bronze, learning to work iron and, finally, mechanising everyday tasks.

Immensely large and diverse procedural worlds

Step into a vast open world populated by creatures that are cute, strange, dangerous and downright horrifying. Vintage Story leans heavily on procedural technology to create wildly varied landscapes, weather conditions and geological features, keeping exploration fresh and exciting.

A twisted universe held up by original story elements

Take the role of a being lost in the body of a tall blue creature and uncover the remnants of civilisation. There is no linear narrative: it is on you to piece together who you are and what happened from the little evidence left behind. Along the way you will meet wandering creatures, find ancient stories, face temporal instability and weather temporal storms.

Immersive crafting mechanics

Vintage Story aims to turn every crafting process into an immersive in-game experience. You make stone tools by knapping individual pieces of rock, form pottery by placing small chunks of clay, and craft sturdy tools by casting molten metal or working hot ingots voxel by voxel on an anvil.

Geologically diverse

Every world you create is filled with wide geological diversity. You will find:

  • Dozens of unique landforms
  • Varying rock layers that host specific minerals
  • Areas rich in, poor in, or entirely devoid of certain minerals
  • Large quartz veins holding small amounts of silver and gold, plus vugs: cavities where large crystals can form
  • Rare crystallised versions of minerals
  • Rare but enormous salt domes, usable as an effective food preservative

Inspired by nature

Tend your soil to grow healthy crops. Apply slow-release fertiliser and compost old food. Cook any of our thousands of meals and look after your nutritional needs. Build a cellar for long-term food preservation. Take up beekeeping, farming and animal husbandry, but remember to protect your farm from local wildlife, always eager for a free meal.
